ABET Accreditation

ABET is a nonprofit, nongovernmental agency that accredits programs in natural and applied sciences, computing, engineering, and engineering technologies.

The ABET accreditation of a university program guarantees that it meets the quality standards of the profession for which it qualifies graduates

The value

  • Helps students choose university programs with quality assurance.
  • It allows employers to hire graduates who are well prepared for the practice of a specific profession.
  • It is used in some countries as a reference and endorsement for professional registration, regulation of professional licenses and selection of candidates in certification committees.
  • It provides universities with a structured mechanism to evaluate and improve the quality of their programs.

A widely recognized accreditation

ABET accredits programs, not institutions, it is a voluntary accreditation, and to date, 4,564 programs at 895 institutions in 40 countries have received ABET accreditation. More than 175,000 students graduate from ABET-accredited programs each year, and millions of graduates have received degrees from ABET-accredited programs since 1932.

The ABET accreditation process is carried out in four accreditation commissions. Each commission sets accreditation standards for specific program areas. The commission in charge of engineering degree and master’s programs is the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC Engineering Accreditation Commission).
