"Models causals basics en l'espai latent per a l'aprenentatge científic a la indústria 4.0", a work included in the PhD thesis "Causal latent space-based models for scientific learning in Industry 4.0", has been recognised with the Premi de la Ribera, awarded every year by the Algemesí City Council, endowed with 1500 euros.

Its author, Joan Borràs, PhD from the UPV, received the news during a postdoctoral stay in Quebec (Canada), where he stated that "it is a pleasure to see the work done during the PhD recognised, together with my colleagues in the department and the thesis supervisor".

Borràs explains that "the project presented is dedicated to the study, development and application of data-based methodologies, based on multivariate statistical models of latent variables, to address the paradigm of scientific learning in the Industry 4.0 environment".

The award ceremony will take place on 26 April at the Algemesí Town Hall, an event that Joan will not be able to attend as he will be continuing his research in Quebec at that time.

ENBIS 2024 Young Statistician Award

The ENBIS 2024 Young Statistician Award, "in recognition of his outstanding contributions to industrial statistics", was added to this important prize, according to the chairman of the committee. Next September, Joan will travel to Leuven (Belgium) to collect this award at the ENBIS 2024 Lecture, where he is also invited to give a lecture.

Creating a start-up

After completing his PhD in Statistics and Optimisation at the UPV, at the end of his stay in Canada, Joan Borrás thought about creating, together with some of his colleagues, "a start-up to carry out technology transfer between the university and private companies". In this way, he explains, "we can ensure that the methodologies developed, such as the project presented here, are accessible to more users".
