Rector José E. Capilla has appointed Alberto Conejero, Professor of Applied Mathematics at the School of Computer Science of the Universitat Politècnica de València (ETSINF-UPV), as the new Vice-Rector for Students and Entrepreneurship of the UPV. Conejero replaces Esther Gómez, recently appointed regional secretary of Universities of the Generalitat Valenciana.
With a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the UPV, Alberto Conejero has held several positions in the institution, including the direction of the Area of Academic Performance and Curricular Evaluation of Students from 2009 to 2013, the deputy secretary general (2013-2016) and the direction of the Applied Mathematics Department, which he has held since 2016.
His research covers various fields, focusing mainly on data analysis with mathematical modelling, network science and mathematical applications to computer science.
He currently teaches in the Bachelor's Degree in Data Science at the School of Informatics (ETSINF) and the Bachelor's Degree in Physics Engineering at the School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSIT). He also collaborates in different Master's Degrees. In 2014, he received the Teaching Excellence Award from The Social Council of the UPV.
The Vice-Rectorate for Students and Entrepreneurship provides UPV students with academic and personal support services. It is also responsible for promoting the entrepreneurial culture within the UPV and encouraging students' acquisition of cross-curricular competencies.
